How is it not fair? Scholar has been sitting a ridiculously overpowered spot for years, and now Yoshi P and the development team are realizing the problem with the classes design and why it has to be nerfed.ĪST aside, the development team since day one has admitted that Scholar's design was a mistake. Now we have Nocturnal gimping along and cries of NERF SCHOLAR NOW, which aren't fair. I know this post is old, but I want to throw my two cents in. Because when that fourth healer drops, it'll make this clusterfuck look like a nice tea party on the lawn.' But maybe that's something to accept and move on with. I consider Ast to be an amazing healer and think that it'll only grow more popular as iLv climbs up, while also acknowledging that S-E dropped the ball a bit. I would argue that Ast as a focused-channel healer would have in fact been a much better use of creating a new type of healer, one that can keep Synastry up 50% of the time and maybe spread it to a second target boom, instant world of new strategies and approaches to how you approach healing as this class.īut instead S-E tried to reach for the stars ( no pun intended ) without really thinking about it or testing it enough in a 'real scenario' and now we have Nocturnal gimping along and cries of NERF SCHOLAR NOW, which aren't fair. I don't think Nocturnal was implemented well, and that's frankly because the design of Scholar already fulfills that type of healing extremely well. I have fun brainstorming possible future directions it could take at level 70, 80 (such as giving the cards we already have secondary functions or creating a Reverse function, like in the tarot without inviting skill bloat such as Bole having a secondary effect of 'increased heal % on target' or Ewer on a healer increasing their healing, etc). I love Ast, I took to it like a duck takes to water, and I've been playing it since Early Access. This is why Red Mage has been such a nightmare to debate back and forth about as a class it's too damn flexible to function without being a game breaker. To put it simply, flexibility often means sacrifice and negotiation of one aspect for another. True, it was a bad idea from the first to tout Ast's 'flexibility' in the sense that it led people to think that flexibility = 100% equality in every scenario when that absolutely isn't the case. We don't demand this of any other class each has their strengths and weaknesses, and for certain fights/situations, you want one over the other. Honesty time I don't see why Ast has to be an equal and or even better replacement to White Mage AND Scholar. There were three main types of guqin in ancient times: the man-made qin of the sage, made by literati, and the guqin made by the emperors. It can be face to face, through online courses, or you go to China and train. But if it’s for a competition or you want to take guqin playing seriously, the best way to learn is by enrolling in classes with a guqin master. If you’re studying for fun, it’s okay to teach yourself. Challenge in studying classical or traditional style.Difficulty in reading the notated score. Here are some problems beginners usually encounter: Also, teaching yourself will take you more time to learn. It’ll also be more challenging to spot and correct mistakes. However, you’ll be sacrificing the benefits you can earn from training with a master. It also helps the community of guqin players to cater to more audiences, as nowadays, the number of guqin masters is dwindling. By watching these videos or reading books, you can get different beginner techniques and tips on becoming a good guqin player and effectively connecting with your audience. With the help of guqin players posting tutorials on online platforms like YouTube, you can now learn on your own. Could You Teach Yourself How to Play the Guqin? Guqin Instrument Regardless of the technique used to play the guqin, the music should not just be entertaining but also inspiring and soothing. Like “fan yin,” players also use both hands to play “an yin,” but the left hand is firmly pressed or sometimes slides across the strings to create different tones and vibrations. In “fan yin,” the left hand lightly holds the string in the correct position while the right hand plucks the strings to produce a light floating tone. Players use “san yin” to produce a clear sound for important notes using their right hand. You must also master the proper finger positions, tuning, and stroke techniques to create a pure tone.Īs a beginner, you must study three basic guqin playing techniques: These skills include picking, sliding, vibrating, and pushing strings to produce sound. You must have good fingering skills to pluck and stop the strings. Yes, the guqin melody is difficult to learn and understand. Because of this, the guqin is now present in modern stage performances and different music genres such as rock and pop. After being recognized by UNESCO in 2003, more and more people of all ages have become interested in the guqin. Later, Chinese makers replaced the goose feet with a wrench, and most strings used today are nylon and steel.Īlthough the true origin of the guqin is still uncertain and the new generation is unfamiliar with the instrument, its popularity is gradually returning. In ancient times, the guqin had twisted silk strings attached to a wooden box with pegs and goose feet to allow players to tune the instrument. The two holes with different sizes at the base of the guqin are responsible for emitting sound: the small or dragon pond and the large hole called the phoenix pool. Its 130cm L x 20cm W x 5cm H size symbolizes 365 days, and the 13 jade markers on the edges represent each month of the Chinese calendar. That’s why today’s guqin has seven strings stretched across a narrow wooden sound box usually made of paulownia wood or China fir. However, emperors in later dynasties added two more strings to represent life events. The guqin initially had five strings symbolizing fire, earth, water, wood, and air. That was until Confucius introduced the guqin as an instrument that was not only used for academic purposes. Playing the guqin was an elite art performed by the nobility, scholars, and literati in an intimate event, not for public performance. These arts are what Chinese scholars had to master. It’s also referred to as “the father of Chinese music” and is an “instrument of the sages.” Guqin is one of the four arts, along with calligraphy, painting, and ancient chess. This Chinese zither, believed to have existed over 3,000 years ago, has many names. We've set the Alvaro Arbeloa in this system to the new inverted full-back position, moved the Xavi into a Mezzala role to get involved and given the left-back free reign like Jordi Alba had, with a pass-happy double-pivot in midfield ahead of a three-man defence on the ball. He chose to play a now-iconic 4-6-0, with Cesc Fabregas in a false nine role.įabregas's interpretation of the position was the least a striker had ever been involved in, well, striking. With David Villa injured for Euro 2012 and Fernando Torres out of form – thanks to insisting on playing with an injury at the World Cup two years prior – Vicente Del Bosque was left to defend his title without a reliable striker. So if I get the hose out and chase it down with the hose and spray it, it flies away. This maybe the only duck to be afraid of water. So the ducks smarter than my dog, probably a little smarter than me. I actually walked him out with a leash the other day and got him all excited. I tried to train my dog, Odin, to attack this duck. It's floating around in my pool or it's walking around on my cement patio there, taking dumps everywhere. I walk downstairs and I look in my pool in the backyard and there's this duck. So I've had this duck for the last seven days. I actually threw this out to the community at large to see, to pick their brains as well as to some questions for you because it's their opportunity to be able to really kind of pick the brain of the owner at Death Wish Coffee, which I think is fun.įirst one I want to start out with because you've been posting about it incessantly, have you named your duck yet?
